Ashmeade Bridge te from the January 2016 Update on this Bridge: As a result of PennDOT safety inspections, Cheltenham Township has eliminated one of two west-bound lanes on Ashmead Road between the Philadelphia border and Tookany Creek Parkway. To help compensate for the lane loss, the left-turn arrow at the parkway intersection has been extended. In addition, the double yellow line has been shifted to the center of Ashmead Road, and reflective delineator posts have been installed along the shoulders of the bridge.  The bridge weight limit of 5 tons has not changed. The new traffic pattern will remain in effect until the township replaces the bridge, expected to begin later this year.

From J.P.S. Construction Co., Inc., the Contractor for this project:
We, JPS Construction, have been awarded the contract for the Superstructure replacement of Montgomery County Bridge No. 268 -- Easton Road over Tookany Creek. The project will begin on the first of October with an anticipated completion date around May 31, 2019. The planned working hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with weekend and night work only happening on an as-needed basis. Access to and from businesses on Easton Road will not be affected and access to the bridge will be unaffected, as well. It is the intent of the contract and the contractor to keep the bridge open at all times. However, it should be expected that there will be lane closures with flaggers during normal workday operations.

Questions can be directed to JPS Construction's offices at (215) 277-5093.

Note from the January 2016 Update on this Bridge: As a result of PennDOT inspections, t
he weight limit of this Montgomery County-owned bridge located on Easton Road near the Toxany Avenue intersection has been lowered to 13 tons because the bridge is considered “structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.” Trucks over 13 tons should follow posted detours using West Glenside Avenue and Limekiln Pike. Later this month the Montgomery County Commissioners are expected to authorize the first steps in the bridge rehabilitation process, which could take approximately three years to complete.
